Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison is an endo-gynaecologist, a specialist in female pelvic floor disorders, and an advanced minimally-invasive and pelvic floor reconstructive surgeon. Following the completion of her training in Germany and Sydney, Dr Willison founded FBW Gynaecology Plus in 2009. In 2018 she founded Desert Flower South Australia, a not-for-profit organisation for survivors of FGM and those in transition. Recognition of her charitable and medical work were recognised in 2023 when she won the 2023 Telstra Best of Business Award in the categories of Championing Health and Accelerating Women, and the AMA Diversity in Medicine Award. Dr Willison completed her PhD in 2022, on pelvic floor repair. She is an AGES unit director, a senior lecturer at Adelaide University and is involved in supervising multiple research projects of PhD students. Currently, Dr Willison is working collaboratively with the Biomedical Electrical Engineering department at Adelaide University on tissue engineering and has been awarded a Seed-Start Grant of $500k grant for her project.
