Dr Fariba Behnia-Willison is a Gynaecologist who graduated from Medical School in Germany and subsequently undertook her gynaecology training in Sydney, subspecialising in minimally invasive surgery and advanced laparoscopy for treatment of endometriosis, prolapse and incontinence. Fariba’s studies extended to her completing a Masters in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Adelaide University. In 2009 Fariba founded FBW Gynaecology Plus. She is also a Senior Consultant at Flinders Medical Centre, and a Senior Lecturer at Flinders University. She founded Desert Flower Australia to raise awareness of female genital mutilation and provide treatment to those who have been affected from this inhuman practice which should not exist in our society in the 21st century. Fariba’s approach to women’s wellbeing goes beyond treatment, extending into quality of life, empowerment and providing best patient outcomes. She pioneered Single Port Laparoscopic Surgery in Australia and performed the first Single Port Mesh Hysteropexy in the world. Her clinical interest and research extends to work in Pelvic Floor Medicine and she pioneered the use of MonaLisa Touch Laser, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)and fat grafting in pelvic floor disorders and female genital mutilation. Striving for perfection and teamwork are Fariba’s core beliefs, she remains committed to being patient focused, delivering a high quality service and being truly innovative, her motto is “we don’t treat the problem, we treat the person”.
